I say this at a serious moment in our common history (...)
Europe has been cut in two by cowardice, by the desire of one part of Europe not to see the difficulties of the other, to abandon its destiny to totalitarianism.
We are certainly approaching a moment in our Europe when it will be appropriate not to be cowardly.
We never want to see the tragedies that are coming.
We never want to see what is happening.
I believe that both our countries are aware of what is happening in Europe;
the fact that war has returned to our soil;
that powers that have become unstoppable are increasing the threat;
that every day they are attacking us more.
We will have to live up to history and to the courage that comes with it.
That will also be our responsibility, and that is what I have come to build.
