Kimi Raikkonen believes Lotus has what it takes to race at the front this year, even though it has not been able to show that form in the first two grands prix.

The new Lotus E20 has shown good flashes of speed in qualifying and the races, but incidents have meant neither Raikkonen nor team-mate Romain Grosjean have yet shown what the car is fully capable of.

Raikkonen though has faith that the potential is there - and that a weekend of no penalties or misfortune will finally allow him to deliver.

"I think we've got off to an encouraging start," Raikkonen told the Lotus website about the first two races. "It's been frustrating sometimes with the chassis issues in testing, the qualifying mix-up in Australia and the gearbox change in Malaysia, but we've shown we can deal with any problems and come back stronger.

"It feels like I've never been away; the team has done a good job and I'm working well with them which makes things easier. The car feels good and we clearly have the pace to be at the front; we just need some better luck."

Raikkonen also says he already feels fully at home at Lotus – and that the atmosphere at the Enstone-based team is helping him shine.

"Maybe people see me as more relaxed, which I think is down to the team," he said. "It's a different atmosphere to what I've experienced before; everyone is very open and laid back but at the same time they work extremely hard and pay a lot of attention to detail.

"I feel comfortable here which helps me to focus on racing; I guess that's why people seem to think I'm a different person, but I'm just as focused and motivated as before."

Nadam se da Benz radi nesto povodom race pace-a u ovom tronedeljnom odmoru, dok mi odje pisemo.

Ako dodju sa istim bolidom u Kinu, mrka kapa.

Jos bi samo falilo da stave jednu DRS zonu u Kinu, a dvije ogromne pravine, no ne bi me cudilo.

Ako ne budu rijesili problem sa trosenjem guma onda smo gotovi. Ja mislim da je to jedini problem Benza.

"Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko says the team have sent their manager to Marussia and HRT after Sebastian Vettel's run-in with Narain Karthikeyan in Malaysia.

World Champion Vettel's frustrations got the better of him at Sepang after he finished P11 following a collision with the HRT driver.

The German showed his middle finger to Karthikeyan shortly after the incident and then called him a "cucumber" during an interview, adding "just like on the normal roads you have some idiots driving around, it seems like there is also one driving here".

The Indian driver was punished by the stewards for causing the collision, but that clearly wasn't enough for Red Bull as they asked their team manager to have a word with HRT and Marussia.

"We have told our team manager to talk to both Marussia and HRT about getting their drivers to pay more attention," Marko told Austria's Servus TV.

He added: "They drive in a different league, they are six or eight seconds slower, and so they need to watch out more.

"The 12 points which Vettel lost could be crucial in the World Championship."

Round three of the 2012 Formula One World Championship, the UBS Chinese Grand Prix, takes place at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday 15 April. The 5.451 km Herman Tilke designed circuit made its debut on the calendar in 2004 and is shaped to represent the Chinese ‘shang’ character.

Since 2004, the eight races have been won by seven different drivers; only Hamilton has won twice (in 2008 & 2011). The 1170 m back straight is among the season's longest, with the cars at wide open throttle for 15.5 seconds. At peak revs on that straight, the engine's pistons will be accelerating at 81,000 m/s2 , equivalent to over 8,250 G.

For Ross, the Chinese Grand Prix “really established itself on the Formula One calendar in recent years. China is an important and growing market for our sport, and indeed for Mercedes-Benz, and we look forward to our annual visit next week.

On track, we hope that the weekend will prove more successful than the first two races of the season where our race results did not match expectations after a positive start to both weekends.

A lot of hard work and analysis has taken place back at the factory since our return, and I hope to see these efforts pay dividends next Sunday in Shanghai with a performance which reflects the capabilities of the F1 W03.”

“The first two races of the 2012 Formula One season have been ones of unfulfilled promise for our team” says Norbert. “Michael’s second row qualifying positions were less than half a second from pole in Australia and Malaysia, however at both events we did not convert our qualifying speed into a consistent race performance on Sunday when it counts.

Since the last race in Malaysia, the team has conducted analysis of our tyre usage during the first two rounds, and how we can improve. The Chinese Grand Prix will provide an answer on our progress, although weather conditions and circuit characteristics will be different to either Melbourne or Malaysia.

The 1170 metre back straight accounts for over 20% of the lap distance, the cars exceed 285 kph on four different occasions, and nine of the circuit’s corners are considered to be low or medium speed, with five taken at less than 100 kph.

Our team has been hard at work since Malaysia, and we hope to be able to translate our learning process into consistent and competitive lap times on race day in China.”
