Michael Schumacher's talent and ability will not have been faded by time, according to Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn.
Schumacher turned 41 last Sunday, and will be the oldest driver to race in Formula 1 since Nigel Mansell's abortive season with McLaren in 1995.
But despite his age, Brawn believes that the seven-time champion's competitive edge will remain as sharp as ever, citing his performances in recent karting events, in which he has beaten the likes of Vitantonio Liuzzi, Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa.
"I have got no doubts that the talent and the ability are still there," Brawn told AUTOSPORT. "You see little flashes of it when he takes part in competitions like the Race of Champions and karting races.
"They are not an absolute measure, but always the same guys win in them that win in F1. The guys that Schumacher beat in those events says a lot."
Brawn added that he does not doubt Schumacher's determination or enthusiasm for his return to F1 after three years in retirement.
When he was in discussions with Schumacher about a possible return last year, he received assurances from the German that he was fully committed to racing again.
"We saw last year when he had the opportunity to drive for Ferrari that it re-lit the passion," said Brawn. "I asked him whether he really wanted to do it [come back] and he said that he did."
Schumacher will have his first run for Mercedes at Valencia in the first week of February, when pre-season testing kicks off after the winter ban. It will be his first outing in a contemporary F1 car since he tested a Ferrari F2008 at Barcelona in April 2008 - his more recent Ferrari test having taken place in a two-year-old machine.

"I definitely didn't blame myself for the year that I missed out," Hamilton said in an interview with McLaren team sponsor Johnnie Walker. "My first season in Formula 1, alongside a World Champion - a double World Champion - and I blew him away. I beat him.

"No-one's ever come in their first year and been at the front, let alone beat a World Champion, beat the mentality and the strength that he would have and his experience in Formula 1 already up to that point."

Having gone on to clinch the title in a sensational last-lap finale to the 2008 campaign, Lewis endured a miserable start to 2009 before registering wins in Hungary and Singapore to finish the season fifth, best of the rest behind Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing's four drivers. "I'm very proud that I had the experience of leading the World Championship for most of the year," Hamilton added of his first season, "and it's sickening, for sure, to think we lost it in the last couple of races."

Da nije Hamilton tada udario Kimija u pit lane, imao bi 4-5 pojena vise od Alonsa.

"The day was good, especially because after a long time I could again drive in a car which is close to a current Formula 1 car," Schumacher said on his website. "Despite the weather not being what we all would have liked, all of my senses were on full alert - this alone was worth it.

"Unfortunately it was always just too wet to go out with Slicks. I tried them twice but had to go back to the pits immediately; I still gained a lot from being here because, even if you can't reach F1 levels in terms of g-forces, you are still able to practise the communication with the engineers and the sensibility of being on the limit - fortunately, it was back very soon.

Ma ne znam zasto uporedimo NAJVECEG sa ovim klincima. Glavna tema je sad "Schumacher izdajnik"! WTF? WTFF?

Kakav izdajnik? Posao u Brawn kod Rossa? Napustio Ferrari? Pa i drugi su mijenjali timove. To nije lose. On je uz pomoc Mercedesa i Norberta stigao do ovakvog uspjeha. U uvijek su pokusali da ga imaju, i 1995-e, i 1998-e, i 2000-e.

Covjek je oborio svaki rekord, covjek ima najvise pobjeda, polea, najvise najbrzih krugova...za nijednim vozacem nema toliko prasine - zbog toga je duplo veci od svih njih zajedno. Sjecamo se Monze 2006-e, nijedan vozac nije imao takav announcement. Nijedan vozac nije napustao ovaj sport na takav nacin. Pa sad prije ovog Njegovog povratka, nema te novine osim naseg Monitora koja nije pisala o Njemu, nema te sport web adrese koja nije pisala o Njemu!

Kako su drugi vozaci izasli? Montoya i Villeneue su dobili nogu, cak nisam znao da nece vise da voze dok nije doslo do sledece trke, Coulthard...odmah van...Mikka...Mikka je izasao iz Formule kad je vidio da ne moze protiv NAJVECEG, a po njemu najveci razlog je bio Huggo. Niko ne zali za njima. Nikome ne boli kita...

NAJVECI je prvi vozac koji je i dalje ostao u timu, covjek koji je set upirao 430 Modenu, 458 Italiju......Californiju....covjek koji je ambasador San Marina, ambasador Bakardija, ambasador Unesca, covjek koji daje milione i milione....Unicefu i drugim takvim organizacijama.

Pogledajte klip kad je vozio FXX za Top Gear, koliko buke je bilo kad je skinuo kacigu, a pogledajte koliko je buke bilo kad je Jeremy predstavio novog, njihovog sampiona, Butka.

Kimusa, koji je dobio nogu, koji je nestao iz F1 je trazio 45 miliona. NAJVECI, 7 miliona. Tu se vidi da nije tu zbog para, on para ima dosta, tu je zbog gusta, ne moze bez F1. To je njegov zivot. A ove druge pickurice, nista bez para.

Michael Schumacher danas je odradio treći, ujedno i posljednji dan testiranja za upravljačem GP2 bolida.
Sedmerostruki svjetski prvak tijekom trodnevnih testiranja na Jerezu uspio je odvesti 1151 kilometar, a najbolje vrijeme dana iznosilo mu je 1 minutu i 24.621 sekundu - četiri desetinke sporije u odnosu na rekord staze kojeg je postavio Kamui Kobayashi u listopadu 2008. godine.
"Na posljednjem danu testiranja sam doista mogao mnogo voziti i sve je ispalo savršeno," komentirao je Schumacher. "Zadovoljan sam načinom na koji su testiranja ovdje obavljena. Radili smo dobro, vremena i konzistentnost su bili dobri i mogli smo obaviti sve što smo imali na rasporedu. Osjećam se spremnim i čim sam sjeo u bolid osjećao sam se ugodno."

Michael Schumacher hat für sein Engagement bei Mercedes präzise Vorstellungen. "In unserer langfristigen Planung haben wir ein klares Ziel: Ich will mit Mercedes GP Weltmeister werden. Vielleicht klappt das nicht im ersten Jahr, aber auf drei Jahre gesehen, ist das realistisch", sagte Schumi der 'Bild'-Zeitung.

Mit der Fitness hat der mit 41 Jahren älteste Fahrer keine Probleme: "Ich trainiere jetzt sogar eher etwas weniger als früher. Dafür effektiver und gezielter."

Schumacher lüftete zudem ein Geheimnis. Dass er nach der dreijährigen Formel-1-Pause immer noch so fit sei als wäre er nie weggewesen, habe er vor allem der guten Pflege seiner Ehefrau Corinna zu verdanken: "Sie hält mich jung und fit. Irgendwie habe ich es bis jetzt scheinbar geschafft, meine Altersgesetze etwas nach hinten zu verschieben. Wahrscheinlich habe ich gute Gene."
