    F1 - Leaving Ferrari was ’a relief’ - Raikkonen

"I won a title with them and had some good times"

    8 November 2012 - 09h44
    , by GMM

Kimi Raikkonen has admitted it was a "relief" when his lucrative deal with Ferrari ended in 2009.
The premature termination of the Finn’s contract, making room for the arrival of Fernando Alonso and major sponsor Santander, pushed Raikkonen out of F1 completely and off to a two-year foray in world rallying and Nascar.
But the now 33-year-old returned to the grid this year with Lotus, performing impressively to now sit a comfortable third in the drivers’ standings, and having notched up his 19th career grand prix last weekend in Abu Dhabi.
He is also signed up for 2013.
Asked by the Spanish sports newspaper Marca to recall his memories of racing for F1’s most famous team Ferrari, Raikkonen answered: "Neither good nor bad.
"I won a title with them and had some good times. I am satisfied with the three years I spent there.
"I don’t miss anyone," he admitted. "To me, leaving there was a relief.
"The situation could have been better, but it’s the past and what is done cannot be reversed," said Raikkonen.
"Things don’t last long if you’re working somewhere and the relations are not good."

He explained that, in contrast, he enjoys working with Lotus.

"I felt good from the start," said Raikkonen. "People work hard and calmly, but they want to win and the sport and the technical sides come before the politics."

Kimi Raikkonen gives entire Lotus team radio messa

By Andrew Benson Chief F1 writer
Kimi Raikkonen has given his entire Lotus team T-shirts emblazoned with his now-famous radio message during his Abu Dhabi Grand Prix victory.
The 33-year-old Finn took his first win since his return to the sport this year and his team's first since the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix.
On Friday 500 T-shirts carrying the slogan: "Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing" arrived at the factory.
“I am not a big fan of being told many things because I know pretty well what I have to do ”
    Kimi Raikkonen

The T-shirts are black, with the words in gold, reflecting the team's colours.
The phrase is a reference to Raikkonen's remarks on team radio during the race.
Raikkonen inherited the lead when Lewis Hamilton's McLaren retired with fuel-pump failure.
Following Hamilton's retirement, Raikkonen's engineer Simon Rennie told him his advantage over second-placed Fernando Alonso's Ferrari and that he would keep him updated on the Ferrari's pace, to which Raikkonen responded: "Just leave me alone, I know what I am doing."
Later, he was reminded to warm up his tyres while driving behind the safety car, and Raikkonen said: "Yes, yes, yes, yes. I'm doing it all the time. You don't have to remind me every second."
After the race, Raikkonen said: "I understand the team is just there to try to help and they are doing the same job as I am doing.
"But I am not a big fan of being told many things because I know pretty well what I have to do [and] what is going around, so if I have some questions I will ask and they will help.

Raikkonen ice cold on team radio

"It's not the first time and it's not the last. It's just a normal thing. People will probably try to make a big story out of it, but it happens every weekend."
Raikkonen, a notoriously singular character, said after the race that the victory meant more to the team than it did to him.
"It's great. It's more important for the team and the people who work here. They do all the hard work," he said.
"I just try to deliver on a Sunday and a Saturday. It is one win for me but for them I think it is a much bigger thing."
Raikkonen's last victory was in the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix, when he was driving for Ferrari.
The Italian team paid him off a year early at the end of that season to make way for Alonso's arrival, and Raikkonen spent two unsuccessful years in rallying before returning to F1 with Lotus this season.
He is third in the championship behind Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Alonso with two races of the season remaining, but is out of contention to win the title.

How the standings would look if Red Bull were punished for all the rules they break.

Round 1 Australia - 0 points (Illegal holes in floor)
Round 2 Malaysia - 0 points (Illegal holes in floor)
Round 3 China - 0 points (Illegal holes in floor)
Round 4 Bahrain - 0 points (illegal holes in floor)
Round 5 Spain - 0 points (illegal holes in floor)
Round 6 Monaco (Last race with illegal holes in floor. FIA declared them illegal after Monaco)
Round 7 Montreal - 0 points (Driver adjusted ride height between Qualy and Race, deemed illegal by FIA)
    Round 8 Europe - 12 points
    Round 9 Great Britain - 40 points
Round 10 Germany - 0 (Engine mapping deemed illegal by FIA)
    Round 11 Hungary - 15 points
    Round 12 Belgium - 26 points
Round 13 Italy 0 (Double retirement, no illegalities)
    Round 14 Singapore - 25 points
    Round 15 Japan - 0 (Flexi-wing)
    Round 16 Korea - 43
    Round 17 India - 40
Round 18 Abu Dhabi - 0 (Rubber, flexi, super wing)

    Constructor Standings

    Ferrari - 340
    McLaren - 318
    Lotus - 288
    Red Bull - 201
    Mercedes - 136

    Driver Standings

    Fenando Alonso - 245
    Kimi Raikonnen - 198
    Lewis Hamilton - 165
    Jenson Button - 153
    Sebastian Vettel - 123
    Felipe Massa - 95
    Nico Rosberg - 93
    Romain Grosjean - 90
    Mark Webber - 78
    Sergio Perez - 66
    Kamui Kobayashi - 58

I have amended all the results only in which either the FIA has deemed something illegal, or there is concrete video evidence of illegal components on the car.

I can imagine the flexi-wings have also visited Korea and India, but cant prove it, so included the points they won there.

I also looked for all technical infringements by the other teams, just to make it fair, and, what do you know, after 2 hours of searching, couldn't find any.

i kad se pogleda kako se osvajaju titule u kontinuitetu i uz saradnju FIA-e i bernija, jasno je koliko je VAŽNA STATISTIKA..

Formula 1 - Mercedes blip 'necessary for future'

Mercedes motorsport chief Norbert Haug accepts that his team's recent performances merit criticism, but says Mercedes' current form is a necessary blip in preparation for a stronger future.

    AutoSport – 19 hours ago

    • Eurosport - Norbert Haug

Neither of the team's drivers have scored points since September's Singapore Grand Prix. It has lost all hope of beating Lotus to fourth in the constructors' championship and is at risk of losing fifth to Sauber.

The team introduced a major upgrade package, headlined by a Coanda effect exhaust, in Singapore.

Haug said the need to fully master these developments, plus efforts to upgrade Mercedes' windtunnel programme, meant the behind-the-scenes progress was not yet being reflected on-track.

"We certainly do not get the full benefit of this Coanda technique currently," he said when asked about Mercedes' issues by AUTOSPORT.
"You cannot get that after two or three races. You have quite a high price to pay in terms of fuel load and horsepower and so on, and I think you have to compensate, and I think that is not quite happening.
"But there is no other way to find a solution than to explore it.
"We have had, and this is not an excuse, a period of one-and-a-half to two months where we changed from 50 to 60 per cent [windtunnel] models.
"You need to do that to prepare for the future."
Haug insisted that now Mercedes had proved it was capable of winning grands prix, there was no reason to doubt that it would be back at the front of the field once its current problems were resolved.
"We did not get a win as a present," he said.
"The [Shanghai] track suited the car, but it was still one of the most dominant wins - it was by 20 seconds and it could have been a one-two," he said.

"We were certainly fast in Monaco, we were certainly fast in Montreal. There have been probably a handful of races where we looked pretty competitive.

"But it's right to say that since the summer break we are not where we want to be, and there are reasons for that.
"One is that we need to explore the Coanda exhaust. This is certainly not giving us the full benefit currently in my judgement. On the other hand, we need to do this windtunnel programme for sure.
"If people criticise us, then we fully accept it, but we have been there [at the front] half a year ago, winning a race not by luck, and we're working very hard to get there again in half a year's time.
"This is our programme and this is what we want to achieve."
