Mercedes Formula 1 technical chief James Allison says the FIA is aware of the team's "novel" steering system that debuted at Barcelona on Thursday.
Mercedes sparked intrigue after Lewis Hamilton was seen moving his steering wheel towards him on the straights during Thursday morning's test running, which appeared to alter the toe angle of the front wheels.
The adjustments would theoretically offer a better set-up for corners while also reducing drag on the straights.
Speaking on Thursday at Barcelona, Allison said the new system was called 'DAS' - standing for 'dual axis steering'.
"We have a system in the car, it's a novel idea," Allison said.
"We've got a name for it. It's called DAS, if you're interested.
"It just introduces an extra dimension to the steering, to the driver, that we hope will be useful during the year.
"But precisely how we use it, why we use it, that's something we'll keep to ourselves."
The legality of the system was immediately questioned after onboard footage from Hamilton's car emerged, but Allison stressed the FIA was aware of its usage.
"This isn't news to the FIA, it's something that we've been talking to them about for some time," Allison said.
"The rules are pretty clear about what's permitted on steering systems, and we're pretty confident that it matches all of these requirements."

Čitam 2x i ne mogu da vjerujem što im Mercedes radi da je ovakva pomama u vorld i na forum..
Koliko godina je dominacija Mercedesa a oni se još nisu navikli na to.

eto toliko kazu da ce trebati ostalima da ovo kopiraju / implementiraju...

Mislim da će Red Bull sigurno da protestvuje protiv DAS-a.
Meni lično,ako je ovo legalno, ovo je idealna stvar. Ross Brawn već nekoliko godina priča priču da tehničkim pravilima žele da obezbijede da se ne ponovi situacija double diffuser V2 (ironično...). Ako se ispostavi da je prevelika prednost sigurno će ga ukinuti u toku sezone ali će tada možda biti orekasno. Takođe fail Ferarija pada u drugi plan ako samo zbog ovoga Mercedes bude dominantan.

Ja mislim da pravila kazu da nista ne smije da se pomjera osim tockova lijevo desno. Sjecam se Mass dampera koji je radio automatski i opet je bio ilegalan, FRIC je radio pomocu vozaca i odmah je banovan. Nadam se da ce i ovo da micu i da bude fair fight.

Helmut Marko: "If you actively change the toe of the wheels while driving, the contact surface of the tyres changes. And thus - even if in a very, very low range - the ground clearance."

Meni je fascinantno da oni ne staju,nego traže nešto novo i pored sve dominacije. Aerodinamiku su usavršili,efikasnost i pouzdanost motora takođe i još uvijek je potrebno nešto dodatno. Mislim da je ovaj izum motivisan Ferarijevim pravcima prošle godine mada su ladno mogli bez toga, Ferari bi našao način da sam sebe uništi...Originally Posted by kenneth

For those still pondering what the FIA plans to do about Mercedes' DAS system, ponder no longer. The system won't be permitted in the revamped 2021 technical regs, but could still be copied by rival teams this year.

Ne prze nas, to je cinjenica. Pa samo im pogledaj lezanje.
Ja imam insajdera u Maranello koji mi je javio prije mjesec dana da su poludjeli posle vazdusnog tunela.

e ako budem gledao i ljigavce iz RBR da su ispred Ferrarija ove godine ne znam kako cu pregurati ovu sezonu...
tacno vise nema zivota u mene da gledam nova razocarenja, jos kad se razvuku na cijelu sezonu...pakao!
