Sapphire Toxic HD 5970 4GB Review

The performance speaks for itself and is impressive in its own right, but whats even more impressive are the temperatures that the Arctic Cooling Xtreme delivered. This cooler is rated for 300 watts of capacity, but easily out cools the reference solution even when its running at 100% fan speed. The idle temperatures were 14°C cooler than the 2GB HD 5970 at idle using the stock clocks and automatic fan control and still even better, the Toxic was 3°C cooler when you ramp up the fan to 100% when the 2GB card was overclocked. The temperatures of 30°C and 67°C under load are excellent by comparison to the stock cooling offered on the Sapphire HD 5970 OC.

PowerColor to launch a 12 Display Card!

If you're into simulations, you've heard stories about people that spent tens of thousands of dollars on recreating that perfect airplane or a racing car. One of main reasons to use multiple PCs wasn't the computing power per se, but rather lack of appropriate number of display connectors.

PowerColor may have a ticket to ride - their custom HD 5970 4GB is the latest to come online, but definitely comes with the most original concept of them all.

XFX HD 5970 Auctioned on eBay for $10,499

This eBay auction lists a supposed limited edition of the XFX HD 5970 Black Edition #68, one of a thousand that card manufacturer XFX will ever make. As of this writing, the current bid is at $10,499 USD, and is scheduled to end on May 3. The auction even looks legit, showing pics of the unboxed graphics card and the hardware specs.

NVIDIA Porting PhysX to OpenCL, Will Work on ATI Cards

On the other hand, not many game developers use GPU PhysX exactly because AMD cards cannot handle it. In seeking to make its API more universal, NVIDIA has decided to port it to OpenCL. Doing so will allow any graphics card to perform the necessary computations even in the absence of CUDA.

AMD rolls out Catalyst 10.4 WHQL, nakon ovih previews-a

After two previews of its 10.4 driver, AMD has finally released a full WHQL-certified version of its April driver. The new driver supports all Radeon cards from HD 2000 series onwards, but all performance improvements are reserved for, as you could have guessed, HD 5000 series cards.

The new driver features new video enhancements as well, as it comes with H.264 Level 5.1 support with the ability to playback 5.1 level streams on all supported players as well as the ability to playback high resolution content (4Kx2K).

Other noted novelties include enhanced support with performance improvements for the Windows 7 Drag and Drop video converter, support for new H.264 file formats, and an option for enabling/disabling GPU acceleration in ATI CCC.

The performance improvements are limited to the HD 5000 series cards and they only include S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky with up to 6 percent on the HD 5970 and up to 3 percent on both HD 5800 and HD 5700 series cards. We guess that the Battlefield Bad Company 2 fix is also present in this final release as well.

Prewiew driveri su noviji tako da je bolje da njih koristis. Treba im oko 2 nedjelje da dobiju WHQL certifikat za drivere kad ga daju tamo na pregled ili sta mu vec rade.

Samsung's MD230X6 six-screen Eyefinity rig gets a price to match its size

Aww... isn't that 8-inch frame in the corner just adorable? And yep, it's right next to the same monstrous ATI Eyefinity rig we gave away at last month's Engadget Show, composed of six 23-inch IPS monitors bolted together. Samsung's been mum about its final price until now, but -- drum roll please -- the MD230X6's just a mere £3,180, which translates to about $4,750 on the other side of the pond. Don't know about you, but that £149.99 ($224) Samsung 800P photo frame's starting to look like a bargain now.

[ZDnet] MSI launching external GFX card for laptops

There have been no shortage of attempts to give laptop graphics some added pop by connecting an external solution with a desktop board. Most recently, Shuttle and Gigabyte displayed new options at CeBIT in March, and now MSI is getting into the act with the prosaically named Graphics Upgrade Solution.

MSI will show off the GUS at Computex with an ATI Radeon HD 5670 card in its housing. The unit then connects to a laptop via the ExpressCard slot. So far, so good. Even a middling card like the 5670 can provide a nice boost over integrated graphics. But there are some significant limitations that won’t let you turn an ordinary notebook into a gaming behemoth.
