AMD's Six-Core Phenom II X6 1090T & 1055T Reviewed by AnandTech

Today's conclusion is no different than what we've been saying about AMD's CPU lineup for several months now. If you're running applications that are well threaded and you're looking to improve performance in them, AMD generally offers you better performance for the same money as Intel. It all boils down to AMD selling you more cores than Intel at the same price point.

Applications like video encoding and offline 3D rendering show the real strengths of the Phenom II X6. And thanks to Turbo Core, you don't give up any performance in less threaded applications compared to a Phenom II X4. The 1090T can easily trump the Core i7 860 and the 1055T can do even better against the Core i5 750.

You start running into problems when you look at lightly threaded applications or mixed workloads that aren't always stressing all six cores. In these situations Intel's quad-core Lynnfield processors (Core i5 700 series and Core i7 800 series) are better buys. They give you better performance in these light or mixed workload scenarios, not to mention lower overall power consumption.

This is an interesting review comparing the higher end CPU from Intel and AMD the Phenom II X6 1055T , the Phenom II X6 1090T and the Intel Core i7 980x , and when you overclock the Phenom II X6 1090T how it perform ?
Also a wide range of the intel and AMD CPU in the benchmark list , so lets take a look at the specifications and features first.

Acer leaks AMD mobile tri-core

Earlier today we stumbled upon Acer's Aspire 5553G, a 15.6-inch laptop based on AMD's quad-core Phenom II X4 N930. A few more listings of upcoming Acer models with the new Phenom were brought to our attention by one of our colleagues and it turns out the new quad will also be featured in the 17-inch Aspire 7551G.

However, it also appears that Acer will also introduce a three-core part on new Aspire models, both in the 17-inch and 15.6-inch flavor. The Phenom X3 N830 is clocked at 2.1GHz and it should end up a bit cheaper than the quad. It will be featured alongside HD 5470 graphics in both the Aspire 7551G and 5551G, but on the upside tri-core models will end up around €100 cheaper. You can check out the listings here.

AMD in movie bussiness

AMD Vision goes to Cannes Film Festival

In addition to its success on the graphics card market, AMD has apparently decided to go into the movie business as well, in order to promote its AMD Vision technology. We must say that we are pretty excited to see what AMD has made, as the trailer looks quite good and charismatic European film star Miki Manojlovic is definitely a pleasant surprise.

AMD has released a trailer for its short movie that will hopefully live up to its premier at Cannes Film Festival in France on May 12th. We say hopefully as things are quite grim for the Cannes Film Festival considering the current weather conditions in France.

The trailer looks good and we sure that AMD is on right track with this one and Manojlovic, a star of two movies that have won the Palme d'Or award should add a great touch to the entire show.

AMD 45W Athlon II X2, X3 & X4 CPUs due next week

High performance CPUs may grab headlines, but it’s mid-tier, mildly frugal chips that grab sales. That’s why AMD’s upcoming 45W TDP desktop chips are so important; according to Fudzilla, the new Athlon II X2, X3 and X4 processors are expected to begin shipping next week, with the entry-level dual-core 2.93GHz Athlon II X2 245e tipped to be around €79 ($101) and followed by a 3GHz Athlon II X2 250e.

Meanwhile the triple-core 2.5GHz Athlon II X3 415e will be priced at €100 ($128), and be followed in short order by the quad-core 2.5GHz Athlon II X4 610e. That’s expected to land for €140 ($179) initially, though price reductions are predicted to bring it more in-line with the 2.5GHz 605e which has a street price of around €100. The frugal chips will be accompanied by the 65W TDP 3.2GHz Athlon II X2 260, at €75 ($96), but beyond that AMD are predicted to only ramp up clock speeds progressively – roughly 100MHz per quarter – until a more significant design refresh in late 2010.

AMD Cancels Retail Phenom II X4 960T Thuban Quad Core Processors

AMD sent out an e-mail today letting the press know that we shouldn't expect to see any retail Phenom II X4 960T Thuban quad-core processors being sold individually on the retail market. These were very interested parts as the engineering samples that were available could be unlocked to become six-core processors. If we had to guess these processors will be available only in OEM systems on motherboards that don't have core unlocking technology in the BIOS. This is a big let down as it could have easily been the best price versus performance processor on the market for AMD. I wonder what AMD will be doing with all the fall out from the Thuban six-core processors now or if the OEM market will scoop them all up?

A kod "nas" su ti ovi sa 4 jezgra po cijeni onih od 6 u Bg, tacno toliko, eno pogledaj na it svet, 178e je Thuban X6 T1055 a kod nas Phenom X4 180e, cak i skuplji ))) !

Tako da ne mozemo imati Asusova, AMD-ova, Gigabajtova, itd, predstavnistva, i nize cijene, jer je jos uvijek malo trziste.

Ja tek sad vidjeh da model 1055T nema otljucan mnozilac, otuda ovako privlacna cijena...ocekivano-nije bas sjajan izbor, citam da za gaming vise preporucuju X4 955/965..sto je i logicno, zbog dosta viseg takta, ovaj radi na "svega" 2.8, a posto nije black edition, overclock je fizikalija.
A opet-cijena mu je 178e u bg dok ce za 1090T biti nekih 300e kad dodje(jos ga ni nema)

Fusion coming this year, 2010 that is

5 years since the announcement

AMD is reputedly saying that it can launch the Fusion chip this year. Over the past five years Fusion meant just about anything in this confused chip company, but for most geeks Fusion is a monolithic chip that has CPU and GPU under the same hood.

This is exactly what Intel’s Westmere 32nm is going to be, just with a weaker graphics part and Intel didn’t ring all the bells about its breakthrough chip that has GPU and CPU together. AMD has been doing this since 2005 and its acquisition of ATI.

AMD hopes that many notebook manufacturers will have a wish to buy its super chip, but this is yet to be seen. We would bet more money on bulldozer as a more successful one, as AMD still has to take the TDP to a much lower levels and close to gap to Intel in this market segment.

Intel has some 18W TPD notebook chips, with its mighty Core 2010 and weak 45nm graphics, but the notebook performance of this chip is simply overwhelming despite lackluster graphics.

AMD's Fusion has yet to prove its power and performance. It looked good as an idea or a Power Point slide some five years ago. We can hope to see some prototypes and maybe even buy one in late 2010.

Jel ko isprobao ovaj X6? Mislim na AMD ne na BMW.

Problem je-nedostatak adekvatne ploce.
Trazio sam dosta po netu vezano za Thuban procesore jer sam i sam zainteresovan, i neki manje vise opsti zakljucak jeste da i pored kompatibilnosti sa starim AM3 pa cak i AM2+ plocama, to nije to, preciznije, jedina ploca koja trenutno valja za ovaj Phenom II X6 je Asus Crosshair IV Formula koje kod nas jos nema.
Cijena napolju joj je oko 210 eura ali na Balkanu je jos nema, a to znaci da ce prvo doci u Hr, nakon nekih mjesec dva u Bg veleprodaje, pa tek onda polako i kod nas eventualno kao opcija za narucivanje.
Znaci-u sustini ne mozes jos uvijek isprobati ovaj X6 a da to necemu valja i da vidis pun potencijal procesora.

Ja cu lijepo da prodam moj Phenom II X3 710... Jer prelazim na jache... CHIP nije klockovan, ako je ko zainteresiran... Lako cemo se zDgovorit oko cijene!
